Subspace Coffee House

GF Grand Emerald Tower
F. Ortigas Jr. Rd.
Pasig City

"The science of coffee. The Seoul of Design. And the coffee breaks in between."

Okay..  so I stole that from Subspace's tumbler page cos it pretty much sums up what the coffee shop is all about: great coffee plus  a k-pop vibe going on. I discovered this place a couple month's back via facebook. They were having Wednesday movie nights featuring Asian films (I'm sold!) and mentioned something about k-pop too, so I asked "When do you usually have k-pop themed nights?". The answer came almost immediately: "Every night is k-pop night!". Omo! Double sold! I have been wanting to visit ever since and after a friend and I attended a Korean Film Festival, we decided Subspace would be a fitting way to end the day.

As soon as we walked in, I heard GD's voice crooning his latest song That XX - that moment - it was simply sublime. Here are some pics, I didn't forget to get as much as I can ^.^

Korean Film Fest 09/21/12

A friend told me about this Korean Film Fest they were having in SM Megamall and of course, I had to go see it. We don't see each other very often so we took it as a great opportunity to bond and indulge on our common love for Asian movies. I was supposed to attend a day's showing but I enjoyed it sooooo much I went back for next day's fare.

So anyway, here are the movies we saw..

DAY 1

JEON WOO CHI

I really enjoyed this movie, and based on the audience's reaction, they did too! It was a great mix of fantasy, action, and comedy. ahhh people actually clapped enthusiastically when the movie ended. And oh! I loved Kang Dong-Won oppa xD

This movie is probably one of the best films I've seen in my whole life. In fact, when I found this full movie up in youtube, I had to share it with my friends on facebook. It simply-cannot-be-missed. Of course, people were clapping and laughing with the characters onscreen. I just loved it.

DAY 2

LATE BLOSSOM

I couldn't find a subbed trailer, sorry. You'd have to be a stone not to be moved by this movie. I really enjoyed it a lot. I was alternately cheering and crying with the characters during the film's entirety. One of the best Korean movie I've seen for sure.

ARAHAN

So it was getting late and I really should have gone home after the first movie but I've heard this is a good one so I stayed for it. idk, maybe because I've just watched 3 great films so I just found this one average. Just like all the other Asian "kung fu?" films. Perhaps if I've seen it another time I would have enjoyed it more.

So that's it for this year's Korean Film Festival. I was actually a bit peeved cos I missed the Japanese one in July. Oh well, next year then.. :)

meeting Far East Movement!! 09-13-12

So I'm a BIG fan. It started when I first heard Like A G6 one nite and it literally transformed that evening into a solo rave party lol.. but seriously, soon after I checked their older songs and got to know them and i learned to love them. I love how they connect with their fans, how they market themselves, how humble they are. Soon after I learned they were going here to perform at a new bar, Republiq. I had no one to go with and it was like you have to buy a whole table so to cut the story short, i missed out. So I told myself this can't happen again. So what to do? I started FM's official Philippine Promo Team in facebook! I knew they have promo teams all over the world and when I checked the list, PI doesn't have one yet. so I coordinated with the overall admin and voila, our page:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/212385318795494/. This was around May, 2011.

September, 2012 (2nd week)

A member posted that FM is going to guest perform during Bench Universe show the week after and we went berserk! lol We asked FM and they were not even aware they were performing til the very last minute lmao. So anyway, I knew arranging a meet and greet is far off since it's not their event, but one thing I've learned is the truth to the verse " Ask and ye shall receive". I contacted our main Admin in the US and asked who to contact from FM's management and we also started messaging FM themselves. That week was a rollercoaster of emotions. I asked Proh if we can possibly meet them at the airport or the hotel lobby cos some members can't even get in the event(it was 18 and over). here's a screenshot of a portion of our conversation:

and then from our US admin:

so by this time we were over the moon and excited as hell! hahaha it was nerve wracking though. We didn't have our contact's name and number til the very last minute so we weren't sure it's gonna push through. Plus the Bench people asked us who our contact was and they won't believe us when we said it's FM themselves lol( couldn't blame them, unless you're an FM fan, you'll find it hard to believe that an artist would bother talking to you much less get you an invite to an event). But after the red tape and getting told twice that we don't have an invite, we reached FM's handler and got our tickets. I was a bit bummed cos we were expecting like mosh pit tix but got lowerbox tickets instead but then when I think about how FM really had no control over it, they asked the producer while they were still in the US to get us in and got us in! I mean how many fans gets that opportunity right? Plus it was all last minute! The event was already sold out. And the sheer amount of people involved: models, designers, suppliers, stylists, etc. It was chaos. So of course, that means no backstage access for us :(( we did try asking the handler but Bench security was tight. We were, however, able to give our gift basket to FM via their handler.

Inside the arena we were seated 2nd row in lower box and we could see a bit backstage. The moment FM came in, we were shouting and spazzing to the max. waving our FM t-shirt and I'm pretty sure the people around us were like ;Huh!?" But I couldn't care less. They were there for the Bench underwear show. We were there for FM. Virman was waving at us  as he was setting up. J-Splif did too, and so did Proh. Kevin didn't see us though. But it was the best feeling ever.

After the show, we ran to where their car is waiting and found out they were staying in Sofitel. We tried to ask the handler if we could get in and meet FM for a few minutes. She said Bench won't let people in but that she'll check again. we didn't hear from her again though. I was disappointed but I couldn't let the members down. I've never stalked in my life but this night will be an exemption. On to Plan B. We headed to the hotel and waited for FM. We knew they had dinner somewhere. It was around 12 midnite. A few hours later, it dawned on us that they might have headed to a bar somewhere after dinner. oeemgeee. It's gonna be a looong night. Virman arrived at 3am. His eyes were kinda red so our suspicion was confirmed. They were having drinks somewhere haha. But he was still really nice and even said upon seeing us "I waved at you guys!" awwww i so love him. He asked if we enjoyed their performance and I said "yeah, you were too up there". ( I wasn't sure about my English then hahah but i was referring to how the stage was elevated so high it was hard to see them properly. not even from the mosh pit. We asked a few questions, got our stuff signed, had our pictures taken and afterwards I asked for a hug lol. dream come true xD

Still a few hours later. The sun rose, no signed of Kev, Jae, and Proh. We were thinking they slept over in Edsa Shangrila Hotel ( where they had dinner and drinks, maybe?). The other members I was with was ready to go home when the van finally arrived. Ahhhh, it was a blur of autographs, pictures, hugs all round. They look like they were about to pass out from exhaustion and sleepiness lol but still very nice. As we were going away, i thanked Proh for the tickets and he said "Anytime!".awww, I hope they go back next year.

Although I was disappointed we didn't meet them properly but i am still super thankful. I mean for an artist to ask a producer of a show to get some fans in, it was awesome. Plus the fact that it wasn't their show and they were there as guest performers only. Thank you, guys!

my bias, DJ Virman
