on working freelance..

So today I officially start working freelance as a writer. It just so happened that the very first job I got is for a company who's into the business of selling uber expensive luxury timepieces and it is my job to write an article for certain watch models. The thing is I don't know whack about luxury watches and the terms that's been assigned to me, hell, I have't even heard of them ever in my life! watches like Vacheron Constantin 31 Day Retrograde and Ulysse Nardin El Toro. They look cool and all, and costs more than my arm and a leg but I have zero idea about them. And to write about something you know nothing about is just, well, it simply isn't being done. So soon after I got hired, I have all these nega vibes going and even entertained the thought of backing out of the job altogether. But then I thought, I am trying to build a portfolio here, I can't be banned! And then a really comforting thought came to mind:

"Don't say you can't do it when you haven't even tried. Arasso!!??"

Yeah! So Gambatte ne, Carla-san. :)

EDIT 11/24

..got this email from our team leader a few days ago:

Hi Carla,

Due to your diligence in submitting quality descriptions, I have recommended that your hourly rate be increased and Seth has approved my recommendation. Keep up the good work.

Regards,
Cherry

... after only about a month's work, I got a 33% increase on my rate! yay! morale of the story: Never entertain self doubt. It accomplishes nothing. :p
